    394. Dips Are a Part of Growth

    You know that feeling when you wake up in the morning and, even though nothing is really different from the day before, you feel low? You’re probably in a dip.

    Your first instinct may be to question it, even fight against it. Instead, we should learn to get comfortable with life’s dips; because dips are an important part of growth. We don’t have to stay down or try to snap ourselves out of it. When we understand that it’s all a part of the process, we can just embrace it.

    Our ancient ancestors had similar physical and anatomical characteristics and they experienced stress in a similar way. However, stress for them was a rare occurrence brought on by life-or-death situations. In our modern society, we are under constant pressures. Our bodies and minds are so overstimulated, they’re unable to tell the difference between near-death experiences and the occurrences of day-to-day life. As a society, we’re starting to feel the effects of that accumulation of stress. Let’s talk about how to manage it for your short and long term benefit.

    382. Taking Personal Accountability, with Mark Heimann

    Accountability has always been important, but it is more important than ever in today’s connected world.

    We all make mistakes, that’s just part of life. Taking ownership of our mistakes and being accountable for them is a required part of growth. Showing accountability extends beyond just saying sorry for your mistakes. We have to show vulnerability and acknowledge those mistakes, as well as our willingness to grow from them.

    “Carpe Diem” or, “Seize the day,” was a phrase used by the Roman poet, Horace, to express the idea of enjoying life while you can. What has this last year taught you about seizing the day?

    With everything that we’ve had to contend with, there has still been an opportunity to find hope, happiness, and contentment. After what may have been lost, many of us have been able to find something new: stillness.

    It’s so important we pay attention to our alignment. But how do we learn to pay attention without micromanaging?

    There is a big difference between the two: paying attention is an art, while micromanaging can mean getting so caught up in minutiae that growth is impaired. Don’t confuse the two. Learn to pay attention instead of micromanage for better habits and better posture.

    Food is fuel. It’s an essential part of keeping our bodies moving and feeling well. If you want to feel your best you have to start thinking consciously about what you put into your body. This is about finding a way to eat well for you, how to fuel yourself, and some tips and tools that you can take if you feel that they would be useful and leave the rest.
