  • 490. How to Help Motivate Others

Everyone’s going through it right now, again. Chances are, a person (or people) you know and care about aren’t living up to their best selves, for one reason or another. It’s easy to hide our faces and dive inward during these times, but we should always be looking out for those around us. It can be very tricky to find the best approach when looking to motivate someone to change or take action. Today, we talk about some of the best ways to go about it.

First, we need to understand that motivation is a byproduct of consistency. Once that is established, forming habits and cultivating motivation comes without trying. Second, don’t fall into the trap of taking the easy way out and simply telling someone to do something. It can be heard as nagging or otherwise disrespectful, which can have the opposite effect.

In this episode, I lay out some of the best tactics you can use, from modeling the behavior you want to see for them (let them see the benefits of the lifestyle changes you’re promoting and they’ll be more likely to follow your lead) to being a cheerleader.

A sense of accountability makes a huge difference in making long term changes, for anyone, and cheering on someone’s accomplishments (as well as reminding them of where they want to be) can make a big difference when it comes to keeping them on the right path.

  • 487. How to Be More Social

This might sound silly, but I think we’re all a little out of practice with our social skills right now. Being used to isolating ourselves during the pandemic, I’ve found that being at home all the time has made me feel more withdrawn in my social relationships. Even though I’ve been working and socializing with my team, it’s not the same. I think this is something most of us are going through.

In other words: we’re rusty. To help restart our social muscles, I have a handy acronym to help remember small ways we can help ourselves come out of these cocoons as social butterflies. Listen to this edition of Monday Motivation and learn how easy it is to become S.O.C.I.A.L. like we used to be!

  • 478. How to Help Your Nervous System Through Yoga Nidra

Yoga nidra is one of my favourite ways to relieve anxiety and stress. It’s so simple, but relatively unknown, tune in to hear how you can add it to your own practice.

The benefits of yoga nidra can be amazing, so long as you’re able to bring it into your schedule, find consistency, and make it work for you. Doing so can help with everything from your general wellbeing, to quality of sleep, even your ability to fall asleep in the first place, as it helps tune your body’s sleep cycle.

It’s restorative and relaxing, while avoiding the grogginess we often experience after a nap. More so than other practices, yoga nidra is best experienced under the guidance of an expert. The internet is flush with content, voices, and perspectives – find the one that speaks to you and unlocks your subconsciousness.

    472. How to Handle Negativity from Others

No matter how much we try to maintain positivity in our lives, negativity will always find its way in. It’s easy to let it get you down, but a few simple tricks can help you take negativity in stride, without letting it ruin your day.

The most important thing is to stay true to yourself. Negativity can be contagious, so don’t let others infect you with it. That doesn’t mean you can’t listen or be compassionate, either. Sometimes, it’s as simple as choosing what you do and don’t let inside your mental bubble.
