    274 | Find Your Fire

Sometimes it’s hard to feel motivated—especially during times like these where everything can feel a bit dim. But we all have this fire within us that can transform us if we just learn to tap into it.

In the chakra world, it’s located in our solar plexus and it affects how we present ourselves in the world, what inspires us, drives us, and transforms us. And when the energy around us gets chaotic, it can dampen our own energy. So let’s get back in touch with that fire.

  • 268 | Why Are We Feeling FRIED?

We’re four months into the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s safe to say we’re all feeling a bit FRIED lately. So let’s talk about how to get out of that feeling.

Living in the unknown is a really challenging place to be. Using the acronym FRIED, here’s how I think we can all work on getting over it: First Respect Individual Energy Demand, Dips, and Discord.

We have to acknowledge that every person has their own energy demands, and we have to respect that in ourselves and in others. You also need to be aware of and appreciate any energy dips that may occur over the weeks or months. And finally, we need to be aware of discord within us. We have to be okay that we may be unsure of some things or not feeling well. If we keep all of this in mind, we should be able to move through this.

  • 262 | What is Your “Strawberry”?

This has been a challenging year in so many ways: Australia’s historic fire in January, COVID-19 has spread across the world, and we are seeing a surge in protests against racial injustice. I read a parable recently called “Tigers Above, Tigers Below,” and it feels like a depiction of 2020 so far.

Even in moments that feel uncertain, how do we find our “strawberry”? How do we find our moments of preciousness that remind us of the vibrant lives we live? It is important that we make a practice of trying to find aspects of joy in every moment, as they will add up to moments of great joy.

  • 259 | Finding the Out Breath

We are in a time that is unique, challenging, and anxiety-producing — but there are also lots of wonderful things happening. It’s a journey that’s representative of life and movement. We can get through a lot of it if we can process our feelings and release them by searching for the out breath.

When we have feelings, we need to learn how to speak our truth, and so much of this can happen with our breath. Being able to manage our breath through awareness, through strengthening, and through meditation helps the process of feeling our feelings.

  • 256 | Be a Participant

How can you be a more active participant in your life? And what does it mean to be a participant?

I’ve thought about this a lot lately, with the pandemic and the racial injustices brought up by Black Lives Matter. How do we show up and bring our best selves into life? Being a participant implies action. We need to not just sit on the sidelines but get involved.

253 | How to Be an Active Ally

We are witnessing a long-overdue movement for racial equity and justice after hundreds of years of engrained systematic racial injustice, and Black people need allies in this fight.

Many of us thought we were allies before, but what some of us are realizing is that we have played a role in perpetuating the mass inequity programmed into our system, contributing to racial injustice. So now it’s time for white people to step up, listen, and learn how we can support Black Lives Matters as active allies.

  • 250 | The Benefit of Specificity

250 | The Benefit of Specificity

Is it important to specialize? In my opinion, yes, it is.

In the yoga world, there is a real calling to specialize — becoming as much of an expert in whatever style of yoga is or whatever your specialty or interest is. There are a lot of generalists who are teaching the various types of yoga, but I think there is a benefit in getting really clear on the path of yoga you are going down.

I’m going to make the case for specialization and why it’s important if you want to become a yoga teacher.
