    090 | Moving Through A Bad Day

Today’s solo episode is inspired by my own experience with having a not-so-great day. We’ve all had those days where we’ve woken up and everything just seems to be going wrong, and we’re feeling not our normal selves. Hopefully those days are few and far between! My intention in today’s episode is to share with you how to move through days like those, and shake those negative feelings.

Things that help me recognize and move through my bad days:

    • Perspective
    • It’s okay to have bad days
    • Have tools to pull yourself out of it, like movement or coffee with a friend
    • Admit when you aren’t being your best self
    • Give yourself a break

  • 088 | Productivity, Eating Habits, and Owning a Business

088 | Productivity, Eating Habits, and Owning a Business

I get a lot of questions from listeners, yoga teachers, and followers I have on social media quite often, so I wanted to take today to answer a few of them. My hope is that in answering these on my podcast, will help someone else as well!

How do you structure a day for optimal productivity, but downtime, too?

I work for myself, and for those who work for themselves it can be difficult to disconnect. What I try and do is have segments of each day where I don’t have anything scheduled, usually in a 1 to 2 hour block, where I am as disconnected as possible.

How do you handle a broken heart?

Feel it. Hearts can be broken in so many different ways, but it’s important to remember that you are strong. There’s a lot of light that does come from a broken heart. Feel the darkness, but know that light is coming.

As a vegan, what do you eat?

I see food as a source of fuel, and I eat only when I’m hungry. There is so much that you can do, and I recommend keeping it simplified for yourself.

How do you grow a yoga business in this market?

You have to look at it from the lens that there truly is room for everyone. As a yoga teacher,  I would recommend preparing yourself because leaving a salaried career to start teaching is a big change. Have knowledge about the body! Stay educated, this only adds to your movement practice. From the studio owner perspective, there is a lot that goes into this as well, especially to the unseen eye. Try and hold the bar high!

  • 086 | Life Lessons from My Teenage Daughter

086 | Life Lessons from My Teenage Daughter

In today’s solo episode with me, I’m sharing some beautiful advice that my teenage daughter offered me when I asked her what I should share on the podcast. My daughter’s response actually shocked me; she said that I should talk about limiting children’s access to electronic devices. Listen in as I share why I do feel that this is an important topic to dive into, and what I learned from this moment with my daughter.

As parents, we are doing the best that we can– we need to continue to be mindful of what we are cultivating in our everyday lives, and in our children’s lives as well.

    Questions to ask yourself:

    • What are some ways that we are hiding behind a screen?
    • Where are we not engaging in life?
    • In what areas of our life are we not moving?

My daughter took a 3 month trip last year to study in the Bahamas, and during her time away she had no access to social media. I believe that this time in her life served as a way for her to see how important true human connection is in life. So, as you go on with your day, try to remember to look up and look around more.

  • 085 | Sharing Information: Be More Generous

085 | Sharing Information: Be More Generous

Today’s podcast is about sharing information! A friend of mine recently wrote a post about feeling unwelcome in the yoga community upon completing her yoga teacher training, and it really made me think about the why behind withholding information from one another. Today we’re going to explore this idea, and how we can overcome it to move forward and help others out along the way.

I believe our own insecurities bubble up, and instead of sharing, we allow fear to take the lead and we shut down. This happens in every field!

Have you ever felt that you withheld information because it gave you a sense of power?

Have you held back on giving feedback?

Don’t be stingy with your time, your knowledge, with your patience, or with your affirmations. Also, learning how to receive these in return will create a feedback loop.

  • 084 | Make A Personal Investment In Yourself

084 | Make A Personal Investment In Yourself

Investing is an interesting concept in that most people think of finances when they say they are making a personal investment, but there are so many other outlets and areas of life to make investments in! Your health, wellbeing, career, and personal aspirations all have their own investments as well. In today’s episode, I’m going to share why I believe it is so important to become better at making personal investments in all aspects of your life.

    Tips for investing in yourself:

    • Set long term goals
    • What is the risk tolerance in your goals?
    • Control your emotional ability
    • Be diverse

The bottom line? Don’t be afraid to invest in yourself, and be very clear on your long term goals. This will help you stay consistent and less uncertain in what you view as an investment.

  • 81 | Stop Being Sedentary

    81 | Stop Being Sedentary

Today’s topic is one that has been on my mind for quite some time now: why are we sitting so much? Why is it that we wait until something very drastic happens before we begin to want to do something about it? In the last decade there’s been a lot of attention given to the frightening fact that we are sitting now more than ever, and sitting is taking years off of our life expectancy. Today’s episode is not intended to scare you, but to help you be more informed about this epidemic, and to inspire you to stand up and move!

What’s happening when the body is sitting for a while?

Sitting for longer periods of time causes your blood to flow slower, and can create serious heart problems. Sitting also alters your digestive system, and can create an issue with properly releasing toxins from the body. From a skeletal stance, without movement, your core has less demand which can cause your posture to worsen, and can create neck, back, and shoulder pain.

How do we begin to change?

With tech being a big part of our world now, I know that this doesn’t have just one answer that will solve the epidemic for us all. Waking up to the fact that we all know the evidence is here, and trying our best to maintain daily movement is important.

    • Encourage your employees to walk 10,000 steps
    • Walk more
    • Stand up and move every 10 minutes
    • Find an accountability partner

  • 076 | How to Help Ease Anxiety

076 | How to Help Ease Anxiety

In today’s podcast episode, I’m talking about the number one factor that affects young people today: anxiety. I recently went to a lecture where the main topic was anxiety and its prevalence, and what I learned was really upsetting. Because of my findings, I wanted to take today’s episode to share ways in order to ease anxiety, and if you are struggling, know that it is okay to seek help.

    What is anxiety?

It is different than stress. Anxiety is when you have a perceived or believed threat. Stress is something that activates anxiety.

    What’s causing the anxiety?

In order to get to dealing with the anxiety, we have to figure out what is causing it. Think about your daily life and the factors that go into it. Are you commuting? Do you have a hostile workplace? Is your home-life stress inducing? How are you breathing? Examine your day and look at all the possible sparks where anxiety may be induced.

What can we do to help?

Breathing exercises can really help reset the high-alert system you’re in. Eating food that is nourishing your body, and properly hydrating can be helpful. What else can you do to relax? Remember, not everything has to be done with a purpose.

  • 70 | Create Confidence

    70 | Create Confidence

We know that confidence is key for having a more successful life, but creating that confidence can seem a little daunting. In today’s episode, I’m sharing the reason I believe confidence is vital to a full life, and the ways that I create confidence in my life.

    Why is confidence important?

When you aren’t confident, you are filled with doubt, vulnerability, and skepticism. Feel into what you want, and let that be stronger than the fear that comes in the way.

How do we create courage and build confidence?

Visualize! Set yourself up for something that may bring up fear, but then overcome it. Come back with a sense of humor, and with a willingness to do the work. Affirmations can really bring up feelings of confidence as well. The people you surround yourself with have a huge affect on how you’ll feel about yourself, too.

Lift your arms up above your head in a V shape, and allow yourself to feel the feelings of victory and confidence.
